Vocabilis 4.0.7 is a vocabulary builder for Windows. Back in the day, people used small, paper cards to build vocabulary; that is to say, to learn different words. Nowadays, Vocabilis tackles that approach, but on the PC. The application consists of several lessons, in several languages. When you select a lesson, you can start shuffling the cards. For example, in the Spanish lesson there are 278 main verbs, you are given cards with a Spanish verb on top, and four possible answers in English below. If you know the answer, you click on it, if you don't, by clicking the Spanish word, you are given the result. The process repeats itself 278 times in this case. Also, at any time, you can have the computer pronounce the word for you, in case the spelling doesn't do it. There are several voices available for most languages. For English, you can even choose between an American accent and a British one. Vocabilis also allows you to edit the flash cards. You can even add cards that are not in any of the original lessons. All the lessons are divided into sessions, so that you don't have to do it all at once, and statistics are recorded throughout the process. Graphically, Vocabilis looks great. It has a simple, yet appealing GUI. Though you won't be able to learn a language from scratch using Vocabilis, it will certainly help build some new vocabulary.
